At SEFOA, we’re proud to have officials who bring not only experience and dedication to the field—but heart, energy, and a genuine love for the game.
We’re spotlighting a few of our members to give you a closer look at the people behind the stripes. This week, we’re featuring Laura Kaiser, a multi-sport official who brings passion, perspective, and purpose to every game she steps into. From basketball and swimming to football and softball, Laura brings her all—and we’re lucky to have her on the team.
Here’s what she had to say about her path to officiating and why she keeps coming back season after season.

What made you decide to become a football official?
I have been involved in sports my entire life and love being around the environment.  My son grew up playing football and when he got to the high school level I started watching the game from a different perspective because I had already begun my officiating career as a basketball official.  I enjoy the game of football and felt the best way to stay engaged in the game was to be out on the field officiating.

Do you officiate any other sports?
Initially began officiating basketball but now I officiate Softball, Swimming and Football

What do you enjoy most about officiating?
There is so much I love about officiating! I love being involved in an activity which allows me to give back to the community while watching our youth excel in their sports.  The camaraderie amongst the other officials is amazing and I love being associated with a team focused on a common goal!  I'm not one to sit around and watch the world go by so I love that officiating keeps me physically active.

What would you tell someone who's thinking about joining?
I would say If you love the game of football and want to have a positive impact on the athletes, coaches and the game as a whole; becoming a football official is the job for you!!  I would also explain the level of training received and current expectations for newer officials and how the SEFOA Association operates.

How many years have you been officiating high school football?
Six (6) years

Interested in officiating?
We’re always looking for new members to join SEFOA. If you love football and want to be part of something meaningful, complete our interest form and we'll be in touch!
